Start with your physical sensations. You can be feeling your own body when you are sitting and just trying to be mindful in a present moment. Can i feel my hand? Do i know my hand is there? Yes, i can feel my hand. I can feel it, the weight of it. We can also pay attention to the space between our ears. Just be there with at like, this is your body. What's what? Can i feel anything between there? It's wonderful because that's giving you an opportunity to be present with some space. But you can do it with your breath.
