The idea of limb coiling is that unless you've got a really good reason and unless you can do it safely, by default, you want to tuck your elbows. You don't want to leave anything dangling that could get injured. And usually my number one piece of advice to people is be very conscious about where you leave your arms and your legs and your neck.
