Half of all people surveyed say that they think climate change could result in the extinction of humankind. I've always viewed apocalyptic environmentalism as a problem for people that care about saving nature, says Julian Zelizer. It gets people hyper-worried about extremely vaguely formulated problems and distracts them from what the prioritized issues might be. And it's possible too that that kind of apocalyptic thinking is much more difficult for people to escape when they are in fact depressed.
