You don't need spoonfuls of sugar in any way. And you can get energy from lots of sources. Many rare marathon runners eat fats instead for energy and they do fine. There is a whole point is there isn't one size fits or answer. We're trying to give people, if they are on carbs, we're going to shift them from highly refined ultra processed carbs.
