The Relationship Between Learning Multiplication Facts and Skip Counting

When we come to teach a certain set of multiplication facts, say the threes or fours, that we introduce them by learning to skip count. But i don't think the connection is actually as strong as people will er often portray it in their teaching. I think getting to the point where you can recall multiplication on division facts often requires a leap of faith that intentionally goes beyond skip counting.
