Lisa Genova is a neuroscientist and the bestselling author of Still Alice. She chose to write about ALS because Richard Glatzer, who was the co-script writer and co-director of Still Alice, was diagnosed with ALS just a couple of months before he read my book. The average life expectancy following diagnosis is, I believe, three years.
