The Evolution of Elite War Production in the United States
In the Antebellum United States, pre-Civil War U.S., two-thirds of the wealth was in the Dixie area. Today's oligarchs on 1% were very much concentrated in the south and yet we view the North as a more developed capitalist state. And then what happened was, and here we need to invoke another important mechanism that helps to explain, for example, why elite overproduction develops. A quote is the perverse wealth pump that moves the wealth from the common population to the elites.
