How to Train for Success
As you get old and beat up, you've got awful horses or whatever else you're doing. Things get injured and those injuries must be taken into account when you train. It's obvious that a strong guy increases his strength at a higher cost than a weak guy. Old guys could still lift heavy. They just can't do as many reps and sets because they can't recover from the volume.
