The Role of Prostate Radiation in Bones

Sometimes patients present with rectal bleeding, and that can be associated with the late complication from radiation to the prostate. Bones are in the pelvis too, so how does prostate and pelvic radiation affect the bones? Anytime we irradiate the pelvis, there's always the possibility long-term that that could cause issues with the fracture. We think about that in counsel patients that they may be more likely to develop a hip fracture if they've gotten a lot of radiation in this area.
