Syria has positioned hundreds of artillery pieces all along those elevated ridges with perfect site lines to israeli farming communities called kibutes. Periodic shelling from these artillery positions is a basic fact of life for Israel's farmers. The israelis would love nothing more than to take control of those artillery positions and reclaim this irr ing geographic advantage from their northern neighbor syria. But paradoxically, they are also the weakest militarily.
