In game theory, it's your best on strategy to elicit better behavior from adversaries. What I've seen work is to slow it down. Maybe in the campfire scene, you choose to walk away or maybe you match the escalation. There's this fundamental principle in game theory that when you're dealing with someone who's being adversarial, which the Blake character is increasingly demonstrating themselves to be.

All of our relationships include some conflict, the big question is how skillfully we handle that conflict when it appears.
