The Neuroticism of General Anxiety Disorder
As each new type of anxiety and panic disorder is outlined, the concept of general anxiety disorder becomes a vestigial remnant when more specific diagnostic criteria are not met. By the mid-90s, we even published a paper that GAD was the basic, perhaps the basic anxiety disorder. It becomes clearer and clearer to Barlow, that most of these unique diagnoses have many things in common with each other.
