I think often our objection to self kindness is feeling like it's somehow weak or we're just going to give up any kind of goals or striving and recognizing that we can be compassionate with ourselves without being indulgent. Sometimes people are I'm torn at times because it seems like the default as a therapist is to encourage people to be to go easy on themselves, cut themselves some slack. But I do find not uncommonly that what a person wants along with that acceptance and empathy is an encouragement to kind of kick themselves in the butt and say like, you know what? No, you're better than this. You got this.
