Charles the Bold: A Soldier's Guide to Success

Unlike his father, Charles the Bold was a soldier at heart. The Duke invested huge amounts of time and money in his armies more than any other contemporary ruler. He wanted to join up two separate chunks of territory into one coherent and unbroken block that stretched from what's now Switzerland to the North Sea. In 1469 on, Charles pursued these openings wherever he could find them.
