Metacognition - The Awareness of Your Own Thoughts
We all have a prefrontal cortex, which gives us the ability to observe instead of react. That what's called metacognition, the awareness of our own thoughts. It does need to be developed as far or strengthened in most of us. So one way of strengthening that is to greet what's happening with this by, you know, holding your knee when you slam your knee against a table.
