The Existential Choice Faced by the Labour Party

I think that's still a very much an open question. There was that bio-election in Greater Manchester last year where there was quite a lot of speculation that the UK vote might do enormously well. But it also looked as if Labour wasn't facing serious problems in its heartland. So I think a lot will turn on how much this particular cleavage continues to matter over the next few months. And I have no sense of whether it will or not, whether the existential choice facing the Labour party will be whether to come out as a party in favour of free trade with Europe or not.
