The Historical Origin of Mary's Death and Her Assumption

There is no historical evidence for any sort of typological or theological evolution. Each type of narrative and all manner of opinions regarding mary's ultimate fate are evident simultaneously when these narratives first appear at the end of the fifth century. While there may at some point have been a single original tradition beyond only a few details, this tradition is now lost. We come to believe that about a doctrine because of what the church teaches. When it comes to the assumption of mary, this is not a case of the church saying an impossible historical claim must be accepted. Instead, this is a cases of the church affirming an historical claim that has unclear historical evidence.
