I was always a big fan in behavioral science of David Rock's 'status certainty, autonomy, relatedness and fairness' He said the three things are money, power and autonomy. I would argue that people who became taxi drivers were people who for some reason either psychological or circumstantial had a particular appetite for autonomy. We did quite a lot at one point to cater to power in people’s power urges,. although that's largely diminished by the fact that all the power means in the modern world is you get to be told no by a more senior person than the finance one. And now we see almost a kind of collective bargaining actually, collective trade unionism for white collar workers.
