What's the Best Working Theory of Coughs?

There used to be this theory that people cramped more when they were dehydrated. It doesn't seem that research supports those ideas today. The best working theory is that it's like at this neuromuscular level with reflexes. So we just get more of this signal to have the muscle contract. And we don't get that complimentary signal to have a relax.
