In our near cortex there is still a sense of relationship ideas are still recognized not just for their individual attributes but in relationship to other ideas. We need enough common neurons to vote such that we can maintain a stable reference frame and so students neo-court taxes as they move from discipline to discipline into their careers or their lives don't feel out of place.
