The Jordan B. Peterson Podcast

CHAPTER

What Are the Primary Categories?

Every human being that's ever lived has lived in an environment characterized by the presence of these three entities, right? We have mothers, we have fathers, and we exist as individuals. So for us, the world is bivalent, it with one hand and gives with the other. And that's true for the natural world, which produces us and destroys us, as it is for the social world, which fosters our development and crushes our individuality. A world that's not only divided into three fundamental categories, but each category divided into a structure that's essentially ambivolent in its fundamental element. That poses the central existential problem for human existence, doesn't it?
