The Basic Idea Behind Resonance

Every object or system has a natural frequency, which is the frequency at which it tends naturally to vibrate. The analogy that's always used with resonance is the example of a child on a swing. By periodic application of small mass force at or near the system's natural frequency, over time greatly increases the amplitude of vibration.
