Alzheimer's
Alzheimer's is a specific brain condition that kills brain cells. The disease process ticks away silently for perhaps 20 years or so before any symptoms are manifest. Usually over a period of months to years, not days to weeks, difficulty with memory and other thinking ability gradually emerges. Eventually results in loss of ability to function normally on a day and day at basis.
