Time Travel Stories Are a Modern Version of a Very Old Kind of Story

Time travel stories are actually a modern version of a very old kind of story. And that is prophecy stories. They all have this commonality where getting knowledge from the future does not help you avoid that future. So, if you don't believe that you can change your future, it's certainly not going to occur to you that you could change your past.
