Reason & Wellbeing
The Role of the Central Clock in Sleep
Like an orchestra we have a conductor and in the circadian system this conductor is the central clock, which is often referred to as the master clock. The timing of it is one of the main determinants of when you sleep each 24 hour day. In a later episode I'll get to how this clock might largely influence many peripheral clocks elsewhere by gating the timing of other activities that help set the time of those peripheral clocks because most of us aren't physically active or eating while we're fast asleep.
