Zinc and the Rhinovirus
When you've got a virus replicating up your nose, you really want to get whatever's going to combat the virus into the site of replication. The main problem is that it just makes you really thirsty, actually. And so when I did my PhD at the common cold unit, we actually did a trial on zinc with human volunteers that were challenged with a specific rhinovirus. You can see some decrease in the amount of virus in a person's nose if they're taking a huge amount of zinc.
