The Paraphrasing Hymn of Psychology
Even in the 1960s, when David Barlow is finishing school, this idea pervades that psychology might not have any standard empirical expression comparable to other sciences. It's really a pipe dream to think that the scientific method could be used to explain the complexity of human condition. We need another kind of epistemology and it's something closer to the humanities in terms of understanding.
