Isometrics are what's going to help you create the stability more than anything so i would definitely place an emphasis on those for the shoulder exercises. Don't beat yourself over normal areas that don't progress as much with weight or other strengthened parts of your body. You can always measure weight in barbells not dumbbells but if you feel more stable do it now and keep doing it.
