The Consistency of the Test Protocol
The trickiest issue with doing a continuous graded exercise test on the running side is that if all you're using is speed, eventually speed becomes a limiter and you don't want that to happen. So then you have to introduce grade and then make this decision point in real time in terms of when are you going to switch from speed to grade. The consistency of the protocol is important because if you're always changing the variables, then you're like, what am I getting? And our test procedures originated from what they're using at the USOC lab.
