The ancient greeks and romans really thought of virtue. That's ta roman a latin word, virtuse as excellence. And another word for it is a excellence of your character, is really goodness of your character. The stoics define goods as very narrow and they're going to be just the state of your character,. which essentially is your virtuous or excellent character. Those other things that are colloquially called goods, also called goods, i'm geing to give them a different word. I'll call them indi rence.

Author and professor Nancy Sherman uses her extensive experience in both subjects to discuss why there’s much to gain from examining ancient Greek and Roman philosophies and how to use their teachings today. Sherman is a Distinguished University Professor and Professor of Philosophy at Georgetown University, and she is also the inaugural Distinguished Chair in Ethics at the United States Naval Academy. She has written extensively during her career on the Stoics, and her most recent book is Stoic Wisdom: Ancient Lessons for Modern Resilience.
