The Cultural Divide in Italy
Fennaroli was considered something very old fashion and something childish even. Italian music at the end of the 18th century decided to become a monoculture, so to devote exclusively to opera. And opera is something related more related to amusement, to culture, to higher culture. So it's closer to the show than to the philosophy book. This created a huge divide between the German consideration of culture and the consideration of German music from other cultures.
