I'm a Survivor of the Great Depression. Is It a Depression?

My mom grew up in Germany during World War II and had a pretty intense life growing up. And then ended up meeting my dad on a street corner during the occupation and came to America. So she was- she had to take care of her father when he got injured in the war and the things that were happening. She had to protect him at times and keep him hidden away in the walls and find food for him, which is something most people don't have to do. He was an invalid through the rest of the war. His leg was basically blown up pretty badly and couldn't walk. He had to amputate it and had a fake appendage.
