The Digital Audio Workstation

By 1990 a new beast was appearing in studios, the Digital Audio Workstation. Instead of magnetic tape, information was stored on a hard drive. This was also the beginning of the era of digital recording software. There were names like Cubase Audio, Studer Diaxxus, Deck, Logic, and what's still the most popular of them all, Pro Tools. All these programs allowed musicians to explore the universe of audio in unimaginable ways.
