A loss of free fat mass less than 8% was related to a 2.8 fold higher risk of cardiovascular events compared with a stable group. People who lifted weights that exercised regularly and ate sufficient proteins still had an increased risk of developing a heart attack. Total muscle mass peaks at the age of 24 years old, afterward it is maintained as about 10% loss occurs between the years 24 and 50. Between the years 50 and 80, an additional 30% loss occurs. The scientists want to say although aging is inevitable, body composition can be contained. We can preserve muscle mass.
