The Origin of Mankind in the Atrahasis

Before the arrival of mankind, the gods had to work very hard and their burdens were often overwhelming. In order to accomplish the creation of man, the womb goddess combined clay together with the flesh and blood of another god. Once humans were created, the gods determined a certain basic parameters about how our species would function. A heavy emphasis was placed on the necessity of humanity being dutiful and industrious.
