There are some studies showing that naive winter swimmers who have been never tried this before, of course, but then they measured the research and measured their breathing rate. The body will remember this and you will not be back to where you started. So even though it feels for you, as if you have never done that before, your body does remember this. And I think it's insane. I can actually feel it.
