What's Next for Collagen?
There's potential for a vegetarian collagen because there's a company that now makes it recombinantly in bacteria. We're looking at the role of caffeine because when we use caffeine in the laboratory and we put it into the media with ourselves, we can decrease collagen synthesis. The question is going to be what happens when we add caffeine to that both at rest and as a function of exercise. It would then say maybe your pre-workout supplements shouldn't have a boatload of caffeine in them if that could potentially affect negatively these adaptations.
