This book is so much more than encouraging people to take naps. Rest is a form of resistance because it disrupts and pushes back against capitalism and white supremacy. We have been brainwashed by this system to believe these things about rest, about our bodies, about our worth. This violent culture wants to see us working 24 hours a day that doesn't view us as a human being. But instead views our divine bodies as a machine.
It's time to make room for more naps. Tricia Hersey, also known as the 'nap bishop' and author of the book "Rest Is Resistance: A Manifesto," explains why relaxation and leisure are human rights — especially for communities of color. This episode originally published October 13, 2022.
