The Effects of Mechanical Ventilation on SPU2

The intervention in the pilot trial was delivered by clinical respiratory therapists who titrated the F2 to achieve the goal of SPU2. Trial protocol did not determine the SPU2 targets during transport and outside the unit during procedures where while the patient was undergoing spontaneous breathing trials. In instances in which plethismography was inadequate or SPU2 monitoring was unavailable or felt inaccurate for a given patient, clinicians were provided these P02 targets and ranges that they could use at any point instead of the assigned SPU2 target when clinically appropriate.
