They initially focused on SQL as a solution, but discovered that it is not sufficient for all use cases. They discuss how a significant portion of workloads can be expressed in SQL, simplifying development, but also address the remaining 10-20% of use cases that require different approaches.

Building streaming applications has gotten substantially easier over the past several years. Despite this, it is still operationally challenging to deploy and maintain your own stream processing infrastructure.
