The History of Barley Wine

The first pale barley wine wasn't brewed in Britain until about 1954, if I remember correctly. And it doesn't actually start to be called a barley wine until about 60 or 70 years after that. So they've been around for way longer than their namesake is what you're saying. But mostly these beers were quite dark. You know, kind of deep ochre or whatever, deep brown. The long aged beers I talked about, this is a thing that kind of disappeared out of people's knowledge and it wasn't until I started finding references to what was going on when Lord Stales' son had his first baby. They would stop brewing for a brief period while the normal estate workers
