Introduction

Motivational interviewing is a technique that I suppose came about because of old school traditional medical care and the way Maybe doctors would act with regards to encouraging people to make changes in their life. The most amount of research and evidence of showing its effectiveness is in things like the cessation of smoking and drinking less but it can be applied to a wider realm i.e. nutrition or exercise for instance now. And if we move forward into more kind of patient or client-centered care, which is what we teach at m&u there's maybe moving forward to something like adherence is the first step.
