The madi army returned stolen cars, set up check points to prevent looting. It helped deliver kerosene and flour and even paid the salaries of workers. Alsatter was a religious movement that did two things most successfully: advocate aggressively to get the americans out and articulate a vision of society that at least resembled something more equal than the way it was currently run.
