The Dangers of Pre-Setting Terms of Debate for Citizens Assemblies
Alan Renek: There will always be a question that is set for a citizens assembly. That question inevitably frames what it thinks about and how it thinks about it, any question frames an issue necessarily. But that question should always be set by elected representatives so that is going back to the elected system. In the facilitation and the range of experts that take part that should always be subject oversight by some kind of body that is representative of a wide range of different perspectives on the issue. Otherwise there is a danger that the process will be skewed in a particular direction.
