The Business Connection Between Engineering and Society
The idea that inventions must be marketable, which ultimately means it to be useful to a consumer. If that's included in the kind of objective function of engineering, then it doesn't seem like much of a stretch to say that technology or innovation should also be socially useful and not just useful to an individual consumer. But I would add that this business connection with engineering is highly hazardous and entails the necessity of including other social sciences in this cluster.
