The Garnik Effect
The Garnik effect is the idea that humans are hardwired to finish what we've started or to at least remember what we started. One great example I found, and I included it in the book, was a marketer who had sent out a display case that held three autographed baseballs. But then you'd have this display that clearly was supposed to have three signed baseballs and only had two on it. So no one wants to leave it incomplete. And so the promotion did very well for the marketer who came up with it.
