The History of Perfectionism
Karen Horny wrote extensively on what she called culture or neuroses that come from societal pressures. She was very big on a concept called the tyranny of should. People created an idealized version of itself and needed to be perfect to soothe those internal conflicts, he says. Over time we've arrived at these kind of free core dimensions, which we've then used to do some more systematic research on perfectionism.
