You are born with this reward function to a large degree. Some part of it's come online during later stages in your life, but for the most part, your reward function is built into you by your organism. I think that the fundamental difference between the robot and this real soccer player is that the real soccer player could decide to just quit and do MMA instead. You can build a robot like that. That decides to take on a completely different task, but by its own, it just decides that. Can you give it a larger reward function? So you give it some kind of polythematic reward function, a similar way as we do. But you have to do that.
