How to Self-Distancing for Ambiguous Decisions

Self-distancing is an exercise to try to create some space between your awareness and what's happening itself. And it's in that space that you can evaluate and hopefully make a wise decision or a decision that aligns with your values. Two practices that I really like to self-distance, the first is to pretend that a close friend or colleague or family member is in the same situation as you - visualize that they're going through exactly what you are. Then imagine yourself 30 years down the road looking back on current you. What would older, wiser version of you tell current you to do? And then do that.
