The Effects of a One Week Deload Period on Muscular Adaptation

The effects of a one week deload period during supervised resistance training on muscular adaptation were studied by Jeff Nippert and his team. The study was published in the Journal of Strength & Conditioning Physiotherapies. There are some good studies looking at detraining periods and their effect on hypertrophy and strength so that lent itself pretty well to like a proof of concept for deloads. But there's some problems with those studies they used untrained subjectsPretty small sample sizes the periods of detraining they used were a lot longer than what is typically used in deloading practices normally. So maybe they're not as great as we thought but they're not necessarily like hurting us
